Community Oriented Policing (C.O.P.) Academy Information and Application

The Los Banos Police Department will be holding its twelfth Community Oriented Policing Academy or C.O.P. Academy, starting March 22, 2007 and ending May 24, 2007.The Academy is not designed to make anyone police officers but to let the public get a better understanding of the workings of their police department. Through this environment, the citizens will learn about what officers do on a daily basis. Officers in turn will learn about how the citizens feel about certain issues. Graduates will be awarded a Certificate of Completion at the graduation ceremony.

Topics will include: Department Tour, Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure, Traffic Laws, Patrol Functions, The Justice System, Defensive Tactics, Building Searches, Drug Influence, Driving While Under the Influence, and Violent Crimes, and will also include a mock trial. One Saturday will be spent at the Police Pistol Range, and at a low speed driving course.
