Street Markings
It is a violation of traffic law to pass, turn, or drive through two sets of double yellow lines, on a street, when the spacing between the two sets of double yellow lines is more than two feet apart. Pedestrians have the right-of-way to walk across the street at intersections whether or not a crosswalk is painted on the pavement. Failure to stop for pedestrians is a traffic violation. Additionally, failure to stop for pedestrians in a visibly marked crosswalk even when the crosswalk is in-between intersections is a violation of traffic codes.
All vehicles must come to a complete stop behind the STOP bar limit line even when visibility is restricted. After coming to a complete stop behind the limit line, vehicles may inch forward toward the intersection until visibility allows your vehicle to safely negotiate progress through the intersection.
Merge into a continuous left turn lane only after signaling a left turn and space is clear to do so, and not more than 200 feet prior to the intersection in which you are turning. A continuous left turn lane can be used to merge from an adjacent street. However, the continuous left turn lane in NOT an acceleration lane. Movement greater than 200 feet is considered driving in the turn lane and a moving traffic violation. (21460.5)
