Animal Control

Animals are regulated in the City of Los Banos by the Animal Control Division of the police department. The city’s Animal Control Officer is Jason Martin. He will respond to your animal control issues, or can answer your animal control questions. You may call him, or leave a message at 827-7070 ext. 252. EMERGENCY? DIAL 911.

We remind you that if you own, control, harbor or posses any dog over the age of four (4) months, it must be vaccinated for rabies, as required by state law. The rabies virus remains active in the wildlife populations in California, and the best way to protect animals and humans from this potentially fatal disease is to keep dogs currently vaccinated.

Residents of Los Banos must have each dog over four (4) months old licensed. Effective December 1, 2009 the Los Banos Police Department will implement a new process for animal licensing that will allow dog owners to purchase dog licenses for one, two or three years at a time. Those who purchase a two or three year license will enjoy a slight cost savings. Dog owners may also opt to keep the same dog tag and number.

This new procedure saves the city and the dog owner time and expenses related to this process.

Licenses are available at the Police Department, 945 5th Street, 8am-5pm, Mon-Fri

License costs are:

1 Year

2 Year

3 Year

Spayed/Neutered

$7.00

$12.00

$17.00

Unaltered

$14.00

$26.00

$38.00

Rabies vaccinations are required before a license can be issued. Vaccinations are valid for up to three years so dog owners can now bring in that proof of vaccination and purchase a license for the same time frame as the vaccination certificate.

There will no longer be an annual city vaccination and licensing clinic. Instead local animal healthcare providers will make “actual cost” vaccinations available on a year round basis. No physical examination or other services are required for a vaccination. Individuals needing local information about vaccinations, costs and office hours may contact local services providers.

Local animal vaccination providers include:

Los Banos Veterinary Clinic 1900 East Pacheco Blvd 826-5860
Pacheco Veterinary Hospital 1624 East Pacheco Blvd 826-3212
Petco 1429 West Pacheco Blvd 827-6813
Westside Veterinary Services 1531 Pacheco Blvd 826-2299

Remember Dog Vaccinations and Dog Licenses are Required

A concerted effort to enforce licensing laws will begin January 1, 2010
